Official Postcrossing from the US

This card will hold the record for shortest distance travelled for a while, I think - 1,442 km. I like this card very much - the composition, the scenery. It came from Kelly in Colorado.

Official Postcrossing from Thailand

I get a little excited every time my list of countries grows by one. This week, it grew when one of my cards reached Thailand. The very next day, I received a card from Thailand! This marks my first official Postcrossing card from Asia.

One of my currently travelling cards is going to a country that I haven't sent/received from yet, so the list may grow again soon!

First postcard from Asia!

I've noticed something odd about my Postcrossing stats - I've yet to receive an official card from Asia. I've sent 6 (3 have been received).

Today I received a card from China - a teenage girl had approached me for a personal swap. I am so glad I accepted, because she sent the cutest card that appeals to my cat-loving ginger self.

And she adorned it with flowers and ladybug stamps!

Positive vibes swap from Germany

William in Germany sent me one of the sweetest card, in my positive vibes swap. This church has personal meaning to him, and he lit a candle for me in it. This is what I love about Postcrossing - asking for help and receiving it.

Positive vibes swap - hot air balloons!

This "uplifting" card came from my request for positive thoughts in my job search. The message on the back was very kind and sweet. The sender asked me to send a Happy Birthday card to one of her friends, and I was glad to do so.

Edited to add - the picture! :-P

Alpaca Love

I was lucky to have the opportunity to visit an alpaca farm in Alberta this summer. Enjoy this postcard of one of the cute babies there!

Scotland card from a Canadian

This card was sent from Scotland by one of the Postcrossing Canada members, in exchange for a UNESCO card. So beautiful. I was in Scotland in 1990 and would love to return there.

Outgoing postcards, week of September 15

Here are some of the cards I sent last week!

Official Postcrossing NL-2650744 from Netherlands

I am loving this Old World style map from Roelof! I also like the giant stamp of the Princess Orange on the back - it took up 25% of the card!

Outgoing postcards

In a change of pace, here are the four postcards I mailed today (September 14). Two are a swap going to Ghana, and two are official Postcrossing cards going to the US and Netherlands.

First official Postcrossing card - NL-2578626

I signed up for Postcrossing on June 2 and staggered sending out my first five cards. The first card has yet to be registered, it was sent to Russia. The way Postcrossing works, one of your sent postcards has to be received and registered until your name and address is given to someone to send you a postcard.

Thus it wasn't until July 2 that I received my first postcard. And it's delightful.

It also happens to be the only non-rectangular card I've received so far.

Swap from Ontario - Niagara Falls

Back in August, I was supposed to go camping in Waterton Park. In my newbie postcard swapping enthusiasm, I arranged swaps for UNESCO cards from Waterton Park and nearby Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump. For a couple of reasons, the camping trip didn't happen, but I honoured my commitments. I went on a road trip a week ago with Susan, the friend who told me about Postcrossing. We drove and drove until we got the postcards!

In exchange for one of the Waterton cards, Marie in Ontario sent me this beautiful card of Niagara Falls.

Spring tulips

I took this photograph while walking around Edmonton with my sister. I love the colours, they're so vibrant.

USA - Virginia

Another "positive vibes" swap, from Virginia! Laura sent me this lovely and delicate card, with some words of wisdom on the back - "Everything you want is on the other side of fear". Thank you!

Monday 8 September 2014

Canada - Ontario

From a round robin swap involving animals, Eleanor in Ontario sent me this artful duck. And because she knows I love ladybugs, she used six ladybug stamps as part of the postage!

Friday 5 September 2014

USA - Georgia

Another "positive vibes" card, from Rose in Georgia. I so love ladybugs, this is such a great postcard!

Thursday 4 September 2014

Austria via Ontario

I belong to the Postcrossing Canada Facebook group. We are playing the "Game of Rare Countries", where we send a participating member a postcard if we send or receive a postcard from a rare country (less than 2500 Postcrossing members).

I received this postcard of Austria from Lynda in Ontario, because she sent a postcard to Austria (2,028 Postcrossers).

Wednesday 3 September 2014

Germany

Another private swap, in response to my request for positive vibes in my job search. I have a job interview on Friday, make of that what you will. :-)

Tuesday 2 September 2014

Hermione up close

This is my youngest cat, Hermione. She was named after Hermione Granger in Harry Potter, and is every bit as bright and curious as her namesake.

Canada - Nova Scotia

This yoga-loving kitty came from Nova Scotia in a round robin swap.

Postcrossing stats

As of September 1, I've now interacted with people from 15 countries! August is the first month where my received postcards matched my sent. Here are my stats since I signed up in June of 2014.

I hope to be able to add someone from Africa or Greenland through Postcrossing soon, to increase the represented continents. I have a card in transit to a 16th country, this one in Asia. The other Postcrossing cards in transit are to countries already represented above.

My Postcrossing stats.

Finland

This card was a true surprise, because it wasn't an official Postcrossing card, or one that I'd arranged in a swap. It came from pooka in group 23 of the Random Acts of Smileness - Round Robin thread in the Postcrossing forum. It's very sweet (love the ladybug!) and it made me smile. Mission accomplished!
